Adverbs modify verbs, and other adverbs, and adjectives, although not all adverbs can do all three jobs.
Prototypical adverbs are formed by adding –ly to an adjective: silently, loudly, mostly, disastrously, fortunately, merrily, hopelessly, fantastically:
Some Adverbs modify or tell more about Adjectives:
For Instance:
You look absolutely fabulous.
Some Adverbs modify other adverbs:
For Instance:
You play the flute extremely well.
How do we form Adverbs from Adjectives:
In most cases, an adverb is formed by adding -ly to an adjective
For Instance:
Cheap – Cheaply
Quick – Quickly
If the adjective ends in -y, replace the y with I and add -ly
For Instance:
Easy – Easily
Happy – Happily
If the adjective ends in -able, -ible, or -le, replace the -e with -y.
For Instance:
Terrible – Terribly
Gentle – Gently
If the adjective ends in -ic, add -ally. Exception: public -> publicly
For Instance:
Basic – Basically
Tragic – Tragically
Some adverbs have the same form as the adjective: early, fast, hard, high, late, near, straight, & wrong
For Instance:
It’s a fast car
Well is the adverb that corresponds to the adjective good.
For Instance:
He is a good Driver (Adjective). He Drives Well (Adverb).
